Maomao, the daughter of an apothecary, is abruptly taken from her quiet life and sold into servitude at the lowest ranks of the imperial palace. Now working as a maid, she keeps her deep medical knowledge hidden to avoid drawing attention.
Soon after her arrival, the emperor’s infants fall mysteriously ill, as if under a curse. Driven by curiosity, Maomao uncovers the cause and tries to anonymously report it. However, the sharp and charming eunuch Jinshi quickly identifies her as the source.
Impressed by her skills, Maomao is assigned as a lady-in-waiting to Gyokuyou, the emperor’s favored consort. As she tackles the many medical problems within the court, her expertise becomes increasingly vital.
