Asta and Yuno were left at the same church on the very same day. Growing up together, they learned about the Wizard King—the title granted to the most powerful mage in the kingdom—and vowed to rival one another for the chance to become the next Wizard King. As time passed, however, the contrast between them became clear. Yuno possessed extraordinary magical talent and control, while Asta, unable to use magic at all, pushed himself through intense physical training in hopes of compensating for his lack of power.
When they turn fifteen, Yuno is chosen by an impressive four-leaf clover Grimoire, whereas Asta is left empty-handed. Soon after, Yuno is attacked by a man named Lebuty, who seeks to steal his Grimoire. Asta rushes to defend him but is completely overpowered. On the verge of despair and defeat, he finds renewed resolve upon hearing Yuno’s voice. In a surge of raw emotion and determination, Asta awakens a five-leaf clover Grimoire—the Black Clover—granting him the power needed to defeat Lebuty. Not long after, the two friends set out on their journey, united by a single dream: to become the Wizard King.
