After graduating from a prestigious university and boasting an outstanding record in his rugby club, Akira Tendou seems to have perfectly lined up the path to his dream career. To top it off, his days at the office are made brighter by a kind and beautiful coworker. At first glance, Akira’s life appears to be going exactly as planned—until endless overtime and exhausting nights become his new normal.

After three years trapped in an abusive work environment, Akira can no longer recognize the drained and hollow version of himself staring back at him. Slowly losing his enthusiasm for life, much like his worn-down colleagues, he teeters on the edge of complete burnout. Then, in a shocking twist of fate, salvation arrives in the form of a zombie apocalypse.

Freed from the chains of corporate life, Akira finally has time to live for himself. He creates a bucket list of one hundred things he wants to accomplish before he someday turns into a zombie. Surrounded by the undead, Akira paradoxically feels more alive than ever before.

High school student Kaname Sudou receives an invitation from a classmate to engage in Darwin’s Game, a mobile game unfamiliar to him. Despite his lack of knowledge about the game, when he activates the application, an unexpected green snake emerges from his phone screen, biting his neck and rendering him unconscious. Upon waking up in the infirmary without any visible signs of a snake bite, the school advises him to take the rest of the day off. Despite his confusion, he brushes off the bizarre incident as a hallucination and heads home by train.

However, curiosity gets the better of him, leading him to use the application once more. Initially relieved as the game seems like a typical battle game, Kaname’s contentment is short-lived. His in-game opponent suddenly materializes in front of him, wielding a knife and intent on hunting him down. Realizing that Darwin’s Game is not an ordinary pastime but rather a ruthless struggle for survival, Kaname frantically runs for his life.

Many ages in the past, humanity faced near-extinction as monstrous humanoid beings known as Titans ruthlessly slaughtered them. Fearing for their lives, humans sought refuge behind colossal concentric walls. What heightened the terror of these giants was not just their hunger for human flesh, but a seemingly sadistic pleasure derived from it. In a bid for survival, the remnants of humanity took shelter within defensive barriers, enjoying a century of peace without encountering any Titans. However, this fragile tranquility is shattered when a colossal Titan breaches the supposedly impregnable outer wall, reigniting the battle for survival against these man-eating monsters.

After experiencing a devastating personal loss at the hands of the invading Titans, Eren Yeager commits himself to their extermination. He enlists in the Survey Corps, an elite military unit tasked with confronting the merciless Titans beyond the protective walls. Eren, along with his adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman and childhood friend Armin Arlert, becomes part of the brutal war against the Titans, racing against time to uncover a method to defeat them before the last remaining walls are breached.

It seemed like an ordinary day for Ganta Igarashi and his classmates as they prepared for a class field trip to the peculiar prison amusement park known as Deadman Wonderland, where prisoners engage in perilous performances for the entertainment of spectators. However, Ganta’s life takes a drastic turn when a mysterious man in red massacres his entire class. Wrongfully accused of the tragedy and condemned to death, Ganta is ironically sent to the very prison he was meant to visit.

Yet, Ganta’s ordeal is only just commencing.

Thrown into a realm of sadistic inmates and mysterious abilities, he must constantly live in fear of the deadly collar around his neck, whose countdown can only be slowed by succeeding in the prison’s lethal games. In this merciless environment, where distinguishing between friend and foe is not always straightforward, Ganta must stake his life to survive. Simultaneously, he strives to uncover the identity of the elusive “Red Man” and clear his name within the confines of Deadman Wonderland.

Savage killings, minor thefts, and arbitrary acts of brutality contaminate the human realm. In stark contrast, the domain of death gods exists as a mundane, unchanging gambling den. The resourceful 17-year-old Japanese student, Light Yagami, and the sadistic god of death, Ryuk, both harbor a shared conviction: their respective worlds are corrupt.

Ryuk, for his own entertainment, tosses his Death Note into the human domain. Light discovers it, dismissing the initial rule as absurd: the person whose name is inscribed in this note will meet their demise. However, succumbing to the irresistible temptation, Light conducts an experiment by inscribing a criminal’s name, resulting in a chilling realization as his first murder unfolds.

Cognizant of the formidable godlike power now in his possession, Light—adopting the alias Kira—pursues his twisted sense of justice with the ultimate aim of purging the world of all wrongdoers. The meticulous detective mastermind, known as L, is already in pursuit, yet as Light’s brilliance matches L’s, the grand pursuit of Kira transforms into a gripping intellectual duel that can only conclude with the demise of one of them.

(*) Death Note Relight 1: Visions of a God is an animated feature film that compiles the first half of the series (episodes 1 to 26) and mainly uses original scenes from the anime, but includes some additional scenes and changes, mainly to replace longer events with shorter ones to adapt the content to a feature film.
(**) Death Note Relight 2: L’s Successors is an animated feature film that compiles the second half of the series (episodes 27 to 36), in which it contains much more original material than its predecessor, presumably because the anime directors wanted to take more creative liberties in this particular special.

Nestled within a forest and sealed off by high gates, Grace Field House is home to a group of orphans who live together as a close-knit family under the care of their kind “Mama,” Isabella. While the children are required to take daily tests, they otherwise enjoy a carefree life, often playing outdoors, as long as they obey the strict rule of never straying beyond the orphanage grounds. From time to time, one of the children is adopted and leaves to join a new family, never to return.

Despite the peaceful appearance, the three eldest siblings begin to sense that something is terribly wrong. Their doubts soon lead them to uncover the horrifying truth behind life at Grace Field, as well as the dark secret hidden beneath the gentle smile of Isabella.

NOTA: This second season is an abbreviated version of the events that take place between chapters 38 and 181, it has an accelerated pace and they simplified the plot of the original manga. There are also changes to consider, the main ones being the omission of the Goldy Pond Battle Arc (chapters 75-95) and the battle against the demon queen and her nobles, <spoiler>in the manga Isabella is killed and Emma’s memory is erased in exchange to forge a new “Promise” between demons and humans</spoiler>.

This second season deviates too much from the story told in the manga, the most significant is the ending, which if we go directly to season 3, you will have many doubts. That is why it is necessary to read chapters 136 to 143 of the ‘Tokyo Ghoul’ manga before continuing with the anime (but if you want to know the original story, read chapters 67 to 143).
