Keitarou Gentouga has always drawn the attention of spirits due to his powerful spiritual presence. A distressing encounter resulted in a curse afflicting his right hand, compelling him to conceal it with a glove. Now a freshman in college, Keitarou strives for a semblance of normalcy. With encouragement from his childhood friend, Eiko Houzuki, he takes up a job as a private tutor. His first client, Yayoi Houzuki, is the top student at the tutoring firm.

To Keitarou’s astonishment, Yayoi is Eiko’s cousin and possesses a unique ability: two pupils in each eye that enable her to perceive the spirit realm and actively pursue vengeful spirits for exorcism. Since losing her parents in a car accident, Yayoi has been on a quest to locate the powerful spirit that took her mother’s soul. Observing the attraction of spirits to Keitarou, she enlists his help in gathering malevolent spirits to aid her in future battles. Despite the inherent danger, Keitarou reluctantly agrees to join her, though each encounter with new spirits tests his determination.

Hole, a dismal and chaotic district where the powerful prey upon the vulnerable and death is commonplace, lives up to its ominous name. This realm exists beyond the confines of law and morality, serving as a proving ground for the dominant magic users. As the elite class in society, these magic users view the inhabitants of Hole with contempt, regarding them as nothing more than insignificant creatures. Victims of violence, mutilation, and cruel experiments, the powerless residents of Hole fill the corridors of its hospital daily.

With unrestricted access to and from this cesspool and facing little resistance to their authority, the magic users seem invincible to most, but not to all. Caiman, more reptile than human, stands out as one such exception. Driven by a relentless pursuit of answers, he relentlessly hunts magic users armed only with a pair of trusted bayonets and his immunity to magic. Cursed by his appearance and haunted by nightmares, Caiman sees magic users as his only hope for returning his life to normalcy. Despite his perpetual hunger, his ally Nikaidou, who manages the restaurant Hungry Bug, stands by his side as his strongest support.

In class 3-3 of Yomiyama North Junior High, transfer student Kouichi Sakakibara makes his return after taking a sick leave for the first month of school. Among his new classmates, he is inexplicably drawn toward Mei Misaki—a reserved girl with an eyepatch whom he met in the hospital during his absence. But none of his classmates acknowledge her existence; they warn him not to acquaint himself with things that do not exist. Against their words of caution, Kouichi befriends Mei—soon learning of the sinister truth behind his friends’ apprehension.

The ominous rumors revolve around a former student of the class 3-3. However, no one will share the full details of the grim event with Kouichi.
This second season deviates too much from the story told in the manga, the most significant is the ending, which if we go directly to season 3, you will have many doubts. That is why it is necessary to read chapters 136 to 143 of the ‘Tokyo Ghoul’ manga before continuing with the anime (but if you want to know the original story, read chapters 67 to 143).
