Kou Yamori is an ordinary middle school student who finds himself unable to understand the complicated idea of love. Seeing no meaning in conforming to what is considered normal, he eventually stops attending school altogether. Troubled by sleeplessness brought on by his aimless days, Kou starts wandering the empty streets late at night.
During one of these nightly walks, Kou meets a strange girl named Nazuna Nanakusa, who claims that people stay awake at night because they are dissatisfied with how they lived their day and cannot sleep until they free themselves from their restraints. Nazuna offers to help Kou overcome his insomnia and invites him to her home, where she persuades him to lie down beside her on a futon. Uncomfortable with the situation, Kou only pretends to fall asleep—until Nazuna suddenly bites his neck, revealing that she is actually a vampire.
Although Kou initially believes the bite will immediately turn him into a vampire, the transformation proves to be more complicated. To truly change, he must be bitten by someone he genuinely loves. Determined to escape his dull human existence, Kou sets himself a new objective: to fall in love with Nazuna and become a vampire himself.

| Where Does the Anime End? | Where Should I Start Reading? |
|---|---|
|
The anime ended at episode 25 (12 of Season 2) (*), which corresponds to Chapter 97 of the manga. The adaptation covers up to this point. (*) NOTE: The second season of the anime practically left out Lira Echigo, who in the manga develops a temporary crush on Kou Yamori. If you want to discover everything this character contributes, I recommend reading chapters 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 83, 84, 85, and 98. |
After watching the anime, to continue the story in the manga, start reading from Chapter 99, which corresponds to Volume 10 (collecting chapters 90 to 99). |
