Six months have passed since Yoshiki Tsujinaka’s best friend, Hikaru Indou, vanished in the mountains and mysteriously returned a week later with no memory of the events. Convinced that the person who came back is not the real Hikaru, Yoshiki confronts him. In that moment, “Hikaru” reveals a monstrous form and pleads with Yoshiki to keep his secret, insisting he does not wish to harm him.

Although otherworldly, “Hikaru” behaves with an almost innocent curiosity, eager to feel the warmth of summer, explore the countryside, and discover human experiences for the first time. For Yoshiki, whether this being is an impostor living on stolen memories hardly matters—so long as he never disappears again. As Yoshiki clings to him in his grief, it becomes increasingly apparent that something ominous and supernatural may have descended from the mountains into their quiet village.
