Twelve-year-old prodigy Rafal strives to live by pure logic, believing that a disciplined mind will earn him society’s admiration and keep him free from emotional influence. With this goal in mind, he declares—before everyone—that he plans to study theology, the most prestigious field in early 15th-century Poland. Yet a chance encounter with a mysterious stranger overturns his worldview, awakening an inexplicable urge to follow his true passion: astronomy.

Determined to demonstrate the elegance and reason behind heliocentrism—the idea that the Earth orbits the Sun—Rafal confronts a doctrine condemned by the Church, which upholds geocentrism as the unquestionable structure of the universe. Anyone who dares oppose this belief faces horrific and unimaginable punishment.

As Rafal seeks evidence supporting a heliocentric cosmos, he struggles with complex calculations and the development of empirical theories. Yet his most daunting obstacle is conducting his research in absolute secrecy—if he wishes to avoid sharing the fate of other branded heretics.
