Whenever he is not being beaten senseless during after-school karate practice, high schooler Kenichi Shirahama spends his time buried in self-help books, desperately searching for confidence and inner strength. Weak, timid, and constantly bullied, Kenichi longs to change—but lacks the power to do so. His routine life takes a sudden turn when he accidentally startles a new transfer student on his way to school, prompting her to effortlessly throw him to the ground. After apologizing for her reflexive response, the girl introduces herself as Miu Furinji and warmly asks Kenichi to be her friend.

That same day, Kenichi’s troubles worsen when a senior member of the karate club gives him an ultimatum: the two will fight in one week, and the loser must quit the club forever. Certain of his defeat, Kenichi sinks into despair—until he witnesses Miu easily take down three street thugs without breaking a sweat. Finally pushed past his limits, Kenichi begs her to teach him how to become stronger.

Miu directs him to her grandfather’s dojo, Ryouzanpaku, a place where bizarre yet terrifyingly powerful masters of various extreme martial arts train. There, Kenichi is promised overwhelming strength—but only if he can survive the brutal training regimen. As a dangerous criminal martial arts gang known as Ragnarok begins threatening the city, Kenichi steels his resolve and steps onto a harsh path of growth.

Thus begins Kenichi’s journey from a helpless victim into a true martial artist—one who fights not for dominance, but to protect the weak and stand up for himself at last.
