Humans and demons are like two sides of a coin, just as Assiah and Gehenna represent their respective realms. The sole method of traversing between these worlds involves possession, akin to tales of spirits. However, Satan, the ruler of Gehenna, finds himself unable to locate a suitable host, rendering him confined to his own realm. In a last-ditch effort to seize control of Assiah, he opts to dispatch his son, with the intention that the young demon will eventually develop into a vessel suitable for possession by the demon king.
The narrative of Ao no Exorcist unfolds with Rin Okumura, seemingly an ordinary and somewhat troublesome teenager, who suddenly becomes the target of a demon ambush. His reality takes a drastic turn as he learns that he is, in fact, the son of Satan, and his demonic father desires his return to jointly conquer Assiah. Unwilling to align with the ruler of Gehenna, Rin chooses to undergo training as an exorcist, aiming to defend Assiah alongside his brother Yukio.
