Timid, quiet, and physically small, Sena Kobayakawa attends Deimon High School, where his appearance makes him an easy target for bullies. Yet, thanks to a lifetime spent running errands, Sena has developed exceptional speed and an uncanny ability to slip through crowds. When the sharp-witted Youichi Hiruma, captain of the Deimon Devil Bats football team, notices Sena’s lightning-fast legs, he pressures the reluctant boy into joining the team.
To keep Sena’s true identity hidden from rival schools, he is made to play behind the visor of “Eyeshield 21,” a mysterious running back wearing the number 21 jersey. This legendary figure is said to run at the speed of light and to have accomplished incredible feats in the United States during his time at Notre Dame College.
Once known for avoiding his troubles, Sena finds that his evasive skills may turn him into the Devil Bats’ ultimate secret weapon. Through training and bonding with his teammates, he slowly builds self-confidence and forms meaningful connections that change his life on and off the field.
